IFP sets scripting confab

NEW YORK — The Independent Feature Project, in association with the Writers Guild of America East, will hold its sixth annual screenplay conference April 4-6 at New York’s Cooper Union.

As part of the “From Script to Screen” conference, the IFP will announce the Beigel Screenplay Award, which comes with a cash prize of $5,000. The deadline for submitting a screenplay for the award is March 21.

“As a screenwriter, I understand the struggle involved in taking a project from the page to the screen. Through the award, we hope to focus industry attention on an up-and-coming writer,” said Herbert Beigel, sponsor of the award.

Beigel is an IFP board member, writer/director of the current Artistic License release “Camp Stories,” and executive producer of both James Mangold’s “Heavy” and Jesse Peretz’s upcoming “First Love, Last Rites.”

The winner of the Beigel Screenplay Award, to be selected by a jury of leading screenwriters, will be announced in January. In order to be eligible for the award, scribes must be a member of either the IFP or WGAE. All partici-pants submitting a screenplay for award consideration will receive a 20-minute private consultation with a profes-sional script consultant.

For more information on the conference or the award, contact Karen Schwartzman at the IFP, (212) 465-8244, ext. 801.
