Grammys a winner for CBS

CBS’ broadcast of the “39th Annual Grammy Awards” gave the Eye web a first-place finish on the final night of the February sweeps and clinched the network’s second-place finish behind NBC in households and total viewers.

For the night, CBS’ three-hour Grammy telecast averaged a 13.4 rating and 22 share, according to Nielsen. That’s off from last year’s 14.6/23 performance by the music awards show. CBS also won all key demo groups.

ABC finished second for the night with an 11.5/19 as “Coach” (10.6/17) hit a season high.

Fox finished third with a 9.7/15 as “Beverly Hills 90210” (9.8/16) had its best rating since last year and “Party of Five” (9.6/15) had its best mark ever. Overall, it was Fox’s best Wednesday with original programming since November 1995.

NBC, preempting its comedy lineup in favor of “National Geographic: Asteroids” (7.6/12) and a special “Dateline” (9.9/15), averaged a 9.5/15 for the night. “Law & Order” led the way for the Peacock with an 11.1/19 at 10 p.m.
