Goldberg in ‘Saving’ role

Adam Goldberg has been inked to co-star in “Saving Private Ryan,” the Paramount Pictures/DreamWorks film starring Tom Hanks and directed by Steven Spielberg.

Goldberg, who recently starred in and directed the indie pic “Scotch & Milk,” will play a member of an elite unit of American soldiers on a dangerous assignment behind enemy lines during World War II.

The pic was written by Robert Rodat and tweaked by Frank Darabont. It begins filming in July in London.

The deal, worked by Innovative Artists’ Steven Levy and Par senior veep Richard Fowkes, returns Goldberg to the majors following his perf as Mike in Gramercy Pictures’ “Dazed and Confused.”

He recently played Chandler’s obsessive roommate, Eddie, on the NBC TV series “Friends.”
