Joey Lauren Adams — currently starring in Kevin Smith’s hit, “Chasing Amy” — has snagged the final coveted lead in John Smith’s “Cool, Dry Place” for Fox 2000.
The thesp joins “Swingers” star Vince Vaughn and newcomer Monica Potter (“Con Air”) in the pic, which was adapted by Matthew McDuffie from Michael Grant Jaffe’s debut novel, “Dance Real Slow.”
Pic tells the story of a part-time lawyer (Vaughn) whose wife (Potter) walks out on him and their 4-year-old son. Subsequently, the father and son leave the city for rural Kansas, where the man finds a new love (Adams). Later, problems arise when Potter’s character comes to reclaim her son.
Katie Jacobs and Gail Mutrux are set to produce the drama for Laura Ziskin’s 20th Century Fox film division.
Adams’ film credits include “Dazed and Confused,” “Sleep With Me” and Smith’s sophomore pic, “Mallrats.” She also appeared as the pie-eating waitress who seduces the angel played by John Travolta in “Michael.”
“Cool, Dry Place” is slated to go before the cameras in Canada in late June.
Adams’ deal was negotiated by her agents at IFA Talent Agency; her managers, William and Sarah Jackson Blaylock; and her attorney, Debby Klein of Bloom, Hergott, Cook, Diemer & Klein.
