Fincher set to helm Fox ‘Fight Club’

David Fincher, the director of “Seven” and “Alien3,” is set to direct “Fight Club” for Laura Ziskin’s Fox 2000. Fincher is currently finishing work on Propaganda’s “The Game,” which stars Michael Douglas and Sean Penn.

There is no start date set for “Fight Club,” but sources close to Fincher suggest that he is currently deciding between the Fox 2000 pic and TriStar Pictures’ “The Sky Is Falling” (Daily Variety, Aug. 25, 1995) as his next project.

Based on the apocalyptic first novel by Chuck Palahniuk, “Fight Club” is about a young man who falls into a love triangle with a woman and another man. The two men start a secret society that offers young professionals the chance to engage in brutal fisticuffs.

The novel was published in August by W.W. Norton, and it was adapted for the bigscreen by Jim Uhls, who has also written “Hard Hearts” for Miramax Films, to which Tea Leoni is currently attached.

Fincher, a founding partner of Propaganda Films, recently finished shooting his first film for that company, “The Game,” which Polygram will distribute domestically. He has also helmed many musicvideos.

Creative Artists Agency repped the director on the deal. Uhls is repped by International Creative Management.
