While ABC’s telecast of the Academy Awards was one of the event’s lowest-rated in years, huge numbers tuned into “Entertainment Tonight’s next-day coverage of the Oscars March 25.
In eight metered markets, including six of the top 10, Paramount Domestic TV’s “Entertainment Tonight” was the highest-rated show all day, beating even network primetime, on the stations where it aired. The feat was most un-usual, even though some networks may have suffered from airing repeats or new mid-season shows.
“ET’s” highest ratings were in Atlanta, where it scored a 14.5/24 on ABC affiliate WSB at 7:30 p.m.. The news-mag also was the day’s top-rated show on WCBS New York (7.8/12), KCBS Los Angeles (7.2/12), WBBM Chi-cago (7.1/12), KYW Philadelphia (9.4/16), WUSA Washington, D.C. (9.7/17), KOVR Sacramento (7.9/14) and KFMB San Diego (9.8/16). Across all metered-markets, “ET” rated an 8.4/14.
