Constantin buys ‘Evil’ rights

Constantin Films has acquired rights to Capcom’s videogame “Resident Evil” for development as feature film.

The game, played on the Sony PlayStation platform, follows the adventures of covert U.S. paramilitary squad mobilized to investigate a string of bizarre murder cases in a remote mountain community. Their adversaries are genetically mutated creatures.

Alan McElroy, author of the “Spawn” comics, which are currently in production as a feature film for New Line Cinema, will pen the script. Entertainment Licensing Associates head Daniel Kletzky handled the negotiations and will also serve as exec producer on the film.
