Columbia Pictures has picked up rookie scribe Steve Franks’ comedy spec “Guy Gets Kid” for Sid Ganis’ Out of the Blue Entertainment to produce, the studio confirmed Wednesday.
Pic is about a cynical 20-something slacker who has to adjust his laconic lifestyle when he finds himself taking care of a 5-year-old.
Sources said Col bought the spec for a low six-figure sum.
The sale marks the first spec Col has bought for Ganis, who started Out of the Blue last year after stepping down as president of worldwide marketing for Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Franks is a first-time scripter who recently graduated from Loyola Marymount University film school.
Alex Siskin, senior exec for Out of the Blue, brought the project in.
Jim Garavente of Innovative Artists brokered the deal for Franks. Manager Chris Henze also reps him.
