While film production in the Los Angeles area dipped .17% in February from last year’s totals, overall, local film production is up 8.5% over last year.
And although down from the previous year, February ’97 goes on record as the fourth-busiest month of production ever recorded here.
According to reports issued by the Entertainment Industry Development Corp., the permitting agency of Los Angeles city and county, L.A. logged 4,234 production days in February, compared to 4,241 for the same period last year.
The small decline could be attributed primarily to a decrease in student films and fashion photography. While production days rung up by feature films totaled 1,068 days in February ’97, compared to 1,108 days in February ’96, the tallies in the other core areas of TV and commercial production were up 58% and 19.7% respectively.
Overall, the L.A. area continues its record production activity. Last year, film production increased from 1995 by 29%. Through February, film crews have lensed 590 more production days in Los Angeles city and county than during the same period last year.
