The Jan. 7 announcements of nominations for Grammys and NAACP Image Awards remind us that the awards season is officially under way. However, let’s not overlook some other key kudos. Florida-based Beautiful People Prods. Inc., described in a press release as “a Florida-based entertainment, fashion and pageant production firm”, named John F. Kennedy Jr. and Florida model Jacqueline Mallery Solomon as 1996’s “World’s Most Beautiful Gentleman and Lady.” Runners-up include figure skater LuChen,Fran Drescher, David Hasselhoff and “Prince Felipe de Borbon of Spain” (as opposed to all the other Prince Felipe de Borbons running around).
Meanwhile, Freeman Cosmetic Corp. CEO Larry Freeman unveiled “The Freeman List of Top 10 Women Who Exude Inner Beauty.” While that expression used to be a euphemism for “homely but with a swell personality,” the list includes such Inner Beauty contestants as Maya Angelou, Katharine Hepburn, Goldie Hawn and Sandra Day O’Connor. It is no doubt a coincidence that Freeman and his daughter, Jill, have recently co-authored a book, “Your Inner Beauty.”
