TORONTO — Baton Broadcasting has raided its chief competitor for an executive to head its new television station in Vancouver.Toronto-based Baton said Friday that Jonathan Festinger will become its senior vice president in the province of British Columbia and general manager of its new station, CIVT, which Baton hopes to have up and running by September. Festinger, currently general counsel and secretary at WIC Western Intl. Communications of Vancouver, takes up his new post May 1. WIC owns BCTV, the Vancouver affiliate of the CTV Television Network, which has a commanding 60% market share. CIVT, which will operate without network affiliation, is the first competitive threat to BCTV. CanWest Global Communications Corp.’s Vancouver station, UTV, remains a relatively small player in the market. Festinger, a bilingual lawyer from Montreal, left his legal practice in entertainment, media and communications law to join WIC in 1989.
