“Breakdown” (Par) pulled in $12.7 million in first place, yielding a per-screen average of $6,025 on 2,108.

“Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery” (New Line) shagged $10 million in second, for $4,572 on 2,187.

Holdovers:

“Volcano” (Fox) subsided to $9.5 million in third, good for $3,429 on 2,776.

“Liar Liar” (U) stonewalled $5.8 million in fourth, good for $2,165 on 2,679.

“Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion” (BV) changed a bit, off to $5.6 million or $3,487 on 1,606 and fifth place.
