Holdovers:

“Jerry Maguire” (Sony) and “Michael” (Turner/New Line) tied for first with $12.5 million. “Jerry” posted a $4,939 per-screen average on 2,531, while “Michael” registered a $5,731 on 2,181.

“Scream” (Miramax/Dimension) startled prognosticators in third with $10.1 million, good for $5,777 on 1,737.

“101 Dalmatians” (BV) dug up $7.4 million in third, with $2,739 per screen on 2,702.

“One Fine Day” (Fox) courted $6.8 million and $3,452 on 1,970.
