John Paul Getty will receive the Artists Rights Foundation’s first Stewardship Award, given to those who are not necessarily filmmakers but are consistent supporters of artists’ rights.
Getty, son of John Paul Getty Sr., was the first non-filmmaker to contribute to the Artists Rights Foundation (His gift helped establish the org.) He also has been a longstanding benefactor to the British Film Institute’s National Film and Television Archive, and he helped establish a film conservation and preservation center.
The award will be presented at the John Huston Award for Artists Rights dinner April 18.
Getty will be unable to attend, but his son Mark will accept.
