Artear triumphs at TV awards

BUENOS AIRES — Artear (Channel 13) on Monday swept the 28th Martin Fierro Awards, the Argentine equivalent of the Emmys, with prizes in 13 categories.

The Clarin-owned broadcaster’s trophies included three for its telenovela “Alen, Luz de la Luna,” including best soap and best actor in a soap (Hector Alterio).

Artear, Argentina’s No. 2 station, also took prizes for series and script (“Verdad y Consecuencias”), newscast (“Telenoche”) and variety show (“Sorpresa y Media”).

Leading broadcaster Telefe dominated the awards for comedy, taking best sitcom (“Mi Familia Es un Dibujo”) and general humor program (“El Show de Videomatch”).

Given by the TV & Radio Journalists’ Assn. (APTRA), the Martin Fierros are Latin America’s most hotly contested TV awards. Some 600 people packed the grand hall of the Buenos Aires Sheraton for the ceremony.
