Paul N. Lazarus, an advertising and publicity executive who worked for several studios and production companies during his long career, died Nov. 28 of congestive heart failure at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. He was 84.
A Cornell U. graduate, Lazarus worked in advertising and publicity for Warner Bros. and also headed the advertising-publicity department for United Artists. He also held executive VP positions at Columbia Pictures and Samuel Bronston Prods.
Since 1974 Lazarus had been a member of the UC Santa Barbara film studies faculty and also served as chief of staff of the annual Santa Barbara Writers’ conference.
He was honored in 1996 as one of Santa Barbara’s Seniors of Distinction.
He is survived by three sons: Paul N. Lazarus III, director of the motion picture program for the U. of Miami; John T. Lazarus, a senior partner of BJK&E Media in New York; Thomas L. Lazarus, a writer-director; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
