Folk singer Jeff Buckley, the 30-year-old son of the late singer Tim Buckley, drowned in a harbor off the Mississippi River in Memphis.
Buckley’s body was found Wednesday, six days after he disappeared while swimming. A passenger on the American Queen river boat spotted the body at the foot of the city’s famous Beale Street.
Buckley came to Memphis in February to record an album beginning this month, according to publicists at Columbia Records.
Buckley’s first full-length album, “Grace,” released in 1994, featured the single “Last Goodbye,” which reached No. 19 on Billboard’s modern rock chart.
Buckley attended high school in New York and later moved to Los Angeles to study music. He played blues and funk before joining the reggae band Shinehead.
Buckley’s solo career began in 1993 with the release of the five-song live EP “Live at Sin-e” on Columbia Records.
