George A. Baron, former president and founder of Santa Monica radio station KSRF-FM (103.1), died Friday of lung cancer at UCLA Medical Center. He was 72.
After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, Baron began his broadcasting career in 1946 as a page at NBC.
His radio station went on the air in 1960 and broadcast for 26 years.
He is survived by his wife, Diane, five children from a previous marriage, five grandchildren and his mother.
Private services will be held Thursday.
Family suggests donations in his memory be made to the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center Foundation at UCLA, 10833 LeConte Ave., Factor Bldg., Room 8-950, Los Angeles, CA 90024.
