Elaine St. Johns

Writer Elaine St. Johns, who was the daughter of the late Hollywood personality Adela Rogers St. Johns, died May 11 in Los Angeles of unreported causes. She was 78.

A native of Los Angeles, she began her writing career in the 1940s working as a reporter for the Los Angeles Daily Mirror.

After 10 years with that publication, she authored the short story “My Friend God,” which led to a long relationship with Guideposts Magazine. she eventually became the magazine’s West Coast editor, a position she held until 1994.

She is survived by a son, George; a daughter, Kristen; a brother, Richard; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations in her name to Hotline of San Luis Obispo County, and sent to Lady Family Mortuary, 555 Fair Oaks Ave., Arroyo Grande, CA 93420.
