Signaling an expansion in its already hefty entertainment law department, legal powerhouse Christensen, Miller, Fink, Jacobs, Glaser, Weil & Shapiro has added attorney and vet business affairs exec Joan Vento to its ranks in the entertainment department. The move also portends a broadening of its relationships with the town’s talent agencies.
Vento was formerly the business affairs veep for the Gersh Agency.
At Gersh, in addition to supporting the agency’s transactions on both coasts, Vento oversaw Broadway and publishing deals, and handled legal issues relating to TV series negotiations.
“Joan is a dynamic and talented lawyer with many admirers in the industry,” Jay Rakow, chairman of the 90-lawyer firm’s entertainment department, told Daily Variety. “My return from Paramount Pictures, coupled with the expansion of our entertainment practice and the addition of Joan, will enable us to take advantage of the explosive growth in the industry.”
Vento is also an adjunct professor of law at Pepperdine Law School, where for the past four years she has taught a seminar in entertainment law.
“I am looking forward to contributing to the strong and innovative entertainment practice for which Christensen, Miller is recognized,” said Vento.
Prior to her two-year stint at Gersh, Vento was a business affairs exec at MGM/UA, where she spent four years.
