V2 Records, the return of Richard Branson to the music business, has tapped industry vet Mike Griffiths as chief financial officer. The former Sony Music Entertainment finance director and professional musician will shepherd the company’s dealmaking.
“Mike combines the unique qualities of an accomplished musician with the diverse experience of finance in records, video, publishing, film and TV,” V2 president Dan Beck said. “He represents firsthand V2’s vision for a company built with talented business people, who uniquely understand the needs of artists.”
At Sony, Griffiths was director of finance and administration for its network of independent labels in Europe, where he analyzed and negotiated new deals and monitored existing pacts.
Griffiths, a former professional trombonist, also worked at Price Waterhouse in England, where he managed audit and business advisory services for such clients as Sony Music and Reed Intl.
He’ll relocate from his native England to the label’s recently established New York digs.
