Twentieth TV ups Friedman

Twentieth Television has promoted Steve Friedman to the newly created position of vice president, marketing and strategic planning.

The new post is aimed at unifying the activities of Twentieth’s research and marketing divisions. Friedman, who previously headed Twentieth’s Chicago sales office, reports to Paul Franklin, senior VP and general sales manager.

Friedman is taking on many of the duties previously handled by former Twentieth senior VP Frank Cicha, who left Fox’s syndie arm in February to become vice president of programming for Fox Television Stations. Friedman will oversee marketing and planning for all of Twentieth’s firstrun, off-net and cable programming.

As part of the reshuffling, Twentieth also has promoted Heather Hart-Smith to executive director and department head of research, reporting to Friedman.

Friedman, who will relocate from Chicago to Los Angeles, joined Twentieth in 1989 as research manager. Hart-Smith also joined the company in 1989 as senior analyst, most recently serving as director of research.
