Designated to spearhead the studio’s governmental initiatives both here and abroad, Hope Boonshaft has been given a stripes upgrade at Sony Pictures Entertainment to senior VP, external affairs.
Boonshaft, who was previously VP, external affairs at the studio, has been given additional oversight over SPE’s relations with governmental officials, specifically those outside the U.S. In effect, she will serve as Ms. Outside to executive VP, corporate communications & governmental relations, Bruce Redditt’s Mr. Inside. Boonshaft will continue to report to Redditt.
The new senior VP’s credentials on both sides of the governmental PR fence are considerable. Prior to coming to Sony in 1995, Boonshaft was senior VP/acting G.M. for Edelman Public Relations, a praisery known for its connections to both American political parties and politicians abroad. She also served as director, community relations, for the White House during the Carter administration.
Boonshaft will continue to be based at Sony’s Culver City lot.
