Charles Nelson, a publicist who most recently helped set up Disney’s Hercules Electrical Light Parade in Gotham, has been upped to VP of publicity for the East Coast for Buena Vista Pictures Marketing, the studio said Tuesday.
Nelson will be responsible for handling all East Coast publicity efforts for the Walt Disney, Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures banners.
He will be based in Gotham, but will report directly to L.A.-based Terry Curtin, senior VP of publicity for Buena Vista.
For the past year, Nelson has been director of national publicity for Buena Vista Marketing in L.A. Before that he was a senior publicist in charge of national broadcast publicity.
The Hercules Light Parade attracted more than 4 million spectators. Other events Nelson helped stage include the world premiere in Central Park of “Pocahontas” and the New Orleans debut of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” at the Superdome.
He also helped coordinate publicity for “The Lion King,” “Toy Story,” “Phenomenon,” “Ransom” and “101 Dalmatians.”
