LONDON — The William Morris Agency has underlined the expansion of its London office by confirming Charles Finch as head of motion pictures Europe, and naming Ben Silverman as head of international packaging Europe.
Finch joined WMA in London earlier this year with a brief to expand the agency’s involvement in the European film business.
Silverman has been with the agency for two years, first in Los Angeles and then in London, where he has been responsible for a number of groundbreaking TV deals, notably helping Granada break into the U.S. network programming business.
Silverman’s new role makes him responsible for WMA’s London TV department, but he will also develop the film packaging business. He was recently responsible for putting together a group of European TV investors into a consortium to finance U.S. movies for WMA clients.
“The international media business is growing faster than the U.S. marketplace,” Silverman said. “William Morris intends to be incredibly proactive in this area, and I am proud to be able to contribute to this expansion.”
Finch commented, “I want William Morris in London to mirror and complement its counterparts in Los Angeles and New York, and have full access to our international client base and expertise. My goal is to focus on the package and financing of motion pictures, and create a truly international system of business for the company which will distinguish us from our competitors.”
Finch will report to WMA president Arnold Rifkin, who added, “William Morris is now in a position to bring the same level of film and television package and financing expertise to the U.K. and European market as we have long offered our clients and partners in the U.S.”
