Konami taps Stateside chair-CEO

Game company Konami Co. Ltd. of Japan has appointed a new chairman and CEO for its Konami of America division: Makoto Sano, a veteran Konami employee who replaces departing chieftain Ken Dirnberger.

Sano, who most recently was director of international business at Konami’s home offices in Tokyo, takes over the reins at Konami of America at a time when it is one of the leading developers of game titles for the new Nintendo 64 game console and a major player in the development of games for coin-op arcades.

Before working for Konami, Sano was executive VP for Goodyear Japan, the wholly owned Japanese subsidiary of the U.S. tire giant. He also has worked for the Nippon Light Metals Co. Ltd.
