As expected, Nancy Bauer-Gonzales has been upped to the post of VP news at KNBC, effective Saturday. She replaces Bill Lord, who announced last week that he was returning to KIRO Seattle.
An eight-year KNBC news veteran, Bauer-Gonzales, 39, has most recently served as assistant news director at the station. She joined the NBC O&O as executive producer for the “Channel 4 News” in April 1989, was promoted to senior exec producer in April 1995 and finally to assistant news director in October.
“This is the end of a 20-year quest to get where I really wanted to get to in TV news,” Bauer-Gonzales said. “I’m sad that Bill Lord is leaving, but I’m thrilled to have this opportunity after growing up in Southern California.”
Bauer-Gonzales’ appointment means that the news departments at two of the four network owned-and-operated stations in Los Angeles are run by women. Cheryl Fair has been news director at KABC since 1994.
