Barry Diller’s HSN Inc. has tapped Nickelodeon Intl. veteran Jon Miller as president and CEO of HSNi Broadcasting, the newly formed corporate umbrella for the Silver King Broadcasting and SF Broadcasting station groups.

Miller, who most recently served as managing director of Nickelodeon Intl., will report to Diller, chairman and CEO of HSN Inc. In his new post, Miller will spearhead the transition of Silver King’s major-market UHF stations from Home Shopping Network programming to locally oriented news and entertainment fare. Miami is set to be the first Silver King market to try the ambitious experiment in localism, starting next March.

“I’ve been involved with building a number of local channels from scratch around the world and I’m excited about the opportunity to do the same thing here,” Miller said. “With the proliferation of networks, there are opportunities for broadcast outlets with editorial sensibilities truly dedicated to the local communities they serve.”

Miller spearheaded the launch of Nickelodeon’s first international channel after joining the Viacom cabler as managing director and CEO of Nick U.K. in 1993. Before Nickelodeon, Miller held executive programming posts with the NBA following a stint as program director for PBS affil WGBH Boston.
