Retail marketing veteran Elayne Garofolo has joined Universal Studios Recreation Group as executive vice president of marketing.
Garofolo will oversee all marketing strategies, consumer positioning and brand development for Universal Studios’ recreation properties. These include Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal CityWalk and the company’s sister park in Florida, as well as Universal Studios Japan, which is scheduled to open in 2001.
Expansion of the company’s Orlando properties includes Universal’s Islands of Adventure and a CityWalk scheduled to open in 1999.
“As our division enters a period of unprecedented growth, “we’re looking for Elayne to help us with innovative and dramatic marketing strategies,” Recreation Group chairman/CEO Cathy Nichols said.
With more than 20 years of experience in retailing and fashion manufacturing, Garofolo most recently was co-founder and head of Marketing Strategies Group, which specialized in strategic positioning and brand development.
Before MSG, Garofolo worked in marketing, merchandising and brand development for Broadway Stores.
Earlier, she was an exec with GFT USA Corp., an international manufacturer and licensee of designer fashion collections.
She also worked in various marketing capacities with Saks Fifth Ave. and Bonwit Teller.
