Box office tracking company Entertainment Data Inc. has named David Penner senior VP and chief financial officer.
Penner was most recently VP, finance, for Marvel Characters, where he was responsible for financial and administrative aspects of the company’s domestic licensing, advertising and promotional activities. Before that, he served as VP and CFO for publishing and interactive game development company Malibu Comics Entertainment, which was acquired by Marvel in 1994.
Before joining Malibu, Penner spent eight years at LIVE Entertainment, eventually reaching the level of VP financial planning and analysis.
Penner was hired to manage EDI’s growth overseas and domestically, according to company president and founder Marcy Polier. EDI plans to expand its overseas offices, which now include Germany, the U.K. and Spain, to cover France and Australia by the end of this year.
“We have more people, more territories and more services,” Polier said. “For instance, our information systems department has grown from eight people in 1993 to 18 by the end of this year. That’s a lot of growth to manage.”
