Disney names Paxton veep in Hong Kong

HONG KONG — Robin Paxton has been named to the newly created position of vice president and managing director, broadcasting, for Walt Disney Television Intl. — Asia Pacific.

Paxton, whose appointment becomes effective June 15, will be based in Hong Kong and will report to Edward Borgerding, senior VP and managing director of WDTVI-Asia Pacific.

Paxton will oversee management and broadcasting interests, which include existing and future country-specific Disney channels in the region.

He was previously the head of Carlton Communications’ operation in India, where he established the office in 1995. Under his direction, Home TV Hindi entertainment channel was launched in May 1996. He was also a director of TV India.

Before moving to India, he was at London Weekend Television (LWT), where he was appointed managing director of LWT Broadcasting Ltd. in 1993. He was also a member of the LWT Group Board, LWT’s representative on the ITV Council and ITV Broadcast Board, and board member of GMTV and London News Network Ltd.

“Paxton joins us at a perfect time as we expand in the region,” Borgerding said. “His broad understanding of the TV industry, knowledge of the region and strategic approach to business strategy, operations and new business development will be a valuable asset to our growth.”

WDTVI-Asia Pacific integrates the broadcast, cable and sales activities of ABC Inc. in the region with the free and pay television, distribution, production and broadcast organizations of the Walt Disney Co.
