Edward Kummer has ankled his post as senior manager of digital production at Walt Disney Studios’ animation division to join Digital Domain, the Venice-based visual effects house as VP of digital operations.
In his new position, Kummer will oversee all digital operation, including 2-D and 3-D animation, as well as software development, production software, systems administration, film scanning and recording and long-term strategic technical planning.
Kummer replaces Ruth Scovill, who recently joined DreamWorks.
A nine-year Disney veteran, Kummer was responsible for computer animation technology, staffing, strategic planning, production management and budgetary oversight for Mouse House facilities in Orlando, Paris and Los Angeles. Under Kummer, the Disney digital group grew from 12 original staffers to over 120.
Kummer oversaw computer graphics production for “The Lion King,” “Pocahontas,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and five others in production.
