Taking significant stock in the adage that two heads are better than one, DreamWorks’ principal troika has named veteran foreign sales exec Jonathan Chissick as co-head of DreamWorks Intl. distribution and marketing, based in London.
Chissick, since 1990 the United Intl. Pictures rep in Israel, joins current distrib & marketing head Gerry Lewis, said DreamWorks principal Jeffrey Katzenberg, to whom both men will report. Together, the two co-heads will oversee the distribution and marketing of all DreamWorks features films in all overseas markets.
One of the key functions of bringing aboard the Israel-born Chissick is his long association with UIP, the international marketing and distribution arm of Paramount, Universal and MGM Pictures. At least for the near future, all DreamWorks films will be handled abroad by UIP, with Lewis, and now Chissick, serving as head liaisons.
“I am excited to be joining the team at DreamWorks as they enter the international marketplace,” Chissick said. “I’ve enjoyed my years at UIP, and am glad that my relationship with them will continue in my new position.”
Katzenberg said Chissick “has the kind of broad-based experience in both international distribution and exhibition that will make significant contributions to our operation.”
Before his stint at UIP, Chissick worked for a decade at Australianfilm exhibitor Hoyts Corp., first as general manager and finally as prexy of the film division in 1988. He also worked for several years at United Artists in the U.S., Australia, Israel and the U.K.
