In a move that signals a further beefing up of its ranks, DreamWorks Records has tapped Mark Gorlick as head of promotion. The nod marks the first hire by recently installed senior exec Bruce Tenenbaum, who worked with Gorlick at MCA Records.

Gorlick, a vet promo powerhouse, will be responsible for the label’s promotion efforts in conjunction with Geffen Records’ promo team, which currently handles the lion’s share of promotion duties.

Gorlick and Tenenbaum are expected to eventually increase the promo staff, allowing DreamWorks to rely less on Geffen staffers.

“Mark was my first and only choice for this job,” Tenenbaum told Daily Variety. “He’s great with radio people, great with staff and great at devising strategies.”

While at MCA, Tenenbaum and Gorlick created a record industry-envied one-two promotion punch that successfully broke a number of albums across several genres.

“Upon leaving MCA, I was presented with a number of opportunities,” Gorlick said. “However, this is the only place I really wanted to be. Who in the music business hasn’t been touched by (DreamWorks co-captains) Mo Ostin and Lenny Waronker? They’ve had an impact on so many people.”

Before MCA, where he rose to senior veep of promotion before ankling in 1995, Gorlick held a number of key posts at Atlantic Records, rising through the ranks until departing in 1992 as veep of pop promotion.
