Tarantino, Bender take spin with Maverick
Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino and his producing partner Lawrence Bender have pacted with Maverick Records for distribution of the pair’s A Band Apart Records, a recently bowed indie label.
The new label will utilize Maverick for back-office functions, such as sales, marketing and promotion, to tout the release of soundtracks from the pair’s films, non-Tarantino pic soundtracks and other original projects.
Maverick, home to such artists as Candelbox, Alanis Morissette and Prodigy, is distributed through the Warner Bros. and Reprise Records labels.
“We are thrilled to be in business with Quentin and Lawrence,” said Maverick Records co-CEO Freddy DeMann. “They are true iconoclasts and we are looking forward to working together for a long, long time.”
Tarantino is known for using music to tell as much of the story as dialogue and shot selection. The duo’s previous pic music successes include soundtrack discs to “Pulp Fiction” and “Reservoir Dogs.”
The label will boast a diversified repertoire which will be led by the first project, the soundtrack to “Jackie Brown,” the Miramax Film starring Pam Grier, Samuel L. Jackson and Robert DeNiro. The pic is set for a Christmas bow.
A Band Apart Records joins Tarantino’s previously launched A Band Apart Films and A Band Apart Commercials.
