Radio Unica Network has picked up radio rights from Spanish-language web Univision to broadcast the World Cup in France next summer.
World Cup ’98 radio rights are potentially lucrative, given the strong interest of Hispanics in soccer as well as high Latino-directed radio ratings. Miami-based Radio Unica is scheduled to begin airing Dec. 1. Univision has TV broadcast rights to World Cup ’98 games.
“We are incredibly proud to be the radio network to broadcast the World Cup,” said Joaquin Blaya, chief exec of Radio Unica. “In my experience, there is no event that can match the action and excitement of the World Cup; it’s like a month of Super Bowls.”
