Hyperion, ESPN plan book line

NEW YORK — Two members of the House of Mouse, Hyperion and ESPN, have announced they will jointly publish a line of sports books to begin this fall.

A division of Disney Book Publishing, Gotham-based Hyperion publishes fiction and non-fiction, hardcover, trade and mass-market paperback books for adults. The Walt Disney Co. owns 80% of the ESPN network brands, with the Hearst Corp. owning the remaining interest.

The first book of the ESPN line to be published by Hyperion will be “The 1998 ESPN Information Please Sports Almanac,” which will include contributions from ESPN personalities Chris Berman, Dick Vitale, Dan Patrick and Chris Mortenson; statistics; rule changes; college; pro; international and Olympic sports facts; bizarre sports occurrences; photographs; and upcoming dates and sites.

Another six books are slated for spring and fall of 1998, including “ESPN’s X-Games: Are You X-perienced,” “The Quotable ESPN” and “ESPN’s Did You Know?”
