Vanguard Films has optioned the Laurence Shames novel “Scavenger Reef,” a comedy/thriller about murderous greed in the art world, set in Key West.
In the story, a painter with a good reputation supposedly dies, driving up the value of his paintings. When the painter turns up alive, he finds that his life really is in danger.
Shames is also author of recently optioned books, including “Sunburn,” optioned by David Permut; “Virgin Heat” by James L. Brooks’ Gracie Films; and “Tropical Depression,” for which he’s developing the screenplay with Caravan Pictures.
Vanguard, best known for the 1988 documentary, “The Thin Blue Line,” is the producer of the films “Seven Years in Tibet” for TriStar, and the upcoming Mike Myers comedy “The Court Jester” for MGM.
