Casper Van Dien, currently starring as a renegade teen galaxy warrior in “Starship Troopers,” has optioned Allen Estrin’s romance script “Where or When” in a mid-six-figure deal as a possible vehicle for him to topline.
The actor would play a St. Louis Cardinal baseball player in the story of two big leaguers — one from the 1930s and one from the 1990s — who through a cosmic accident, trade places.
Van Dien read the script two years ago when it was under option to Mario Kassar’s MK Prods. Sources said he was so eager to do the role that he was willing to spend his own money to option the script. He is currently looking to place the project at a studio or with an indie financier.
Van Dien recently wrapped “Tarzan” for Warner Bros., “Revenant” for Storm Entertainment and Millennium’s “On the Border.”
He was repped in the deal by Darryl Marshak and Harry Gold of the Gold/Marshak/Liedtke Agency and attorney Richard Bloom.
Estrin’s credits include three episodes of the ABC series “The Practice” and the sequel to “Pocohantas.”
Estrin was repped in the deal by Marcie Wright of the Wright Concept.
