Universal Pictures picked up the medieval actioner “The Black Rock” on Friday for producer Chuck Gordon and his studio-based Daybreak Prods. The sale, for an undisclosed sum, ended a bidding war between three studios, sources said.
Written by Bob Conte and Peter Wortmann, “The Black Rock” is about a castle of the same name owned by a medieval lord who sets his sights on dominating Europe. The story is about a turning point in the annals of war when chivalry ends and weaponry becomes more sophisticated as swords are replaced by gunpowder.
This marks the second recent sale for the writers, who previously sold a pitch to Warner Bros. called “Staged Kiss” for producer Bobby Newmyer.
Conte and Wortmann were repped in the deal by Endeavor.
