Screenwriter Joan Taylor will adapt Sarah Lee Rosenberg’s book “It’s All in the Cards” for the Bubble Factory and Bette Midler’s All Girl Prods., and the scribe also is penning a feature version of the popular comic strip “Hazel.”
“It’s All in the Cards” is a female buddy comedy, about two Long Island housewives whose lives quickly sink into a world of treachery and deceit after they win a greeting card contest. Pic is being developed as a possible star vehicle for Midler.
“All Girl is very excited to be in business with Joan, a writer who we respect and admire very much,” said Bonnie Bruckheimer, Midler’s producing partner.
Taylor also is writing “Hazel” for Penny Marshall’s Parkway Prods. at Universal. The project, based on the comic strip about a family maid rather than the Shirley Booth TV sitcom, is being developed possibly as a vehicle for Marshall to direct and even star in. Her company will produce along with producer Sara Colleton.
Taylor received story credit on “Fools Rush In,” and has adapted a screen version of “Love Letters” for TriStar.
The projects were brokered by Ross Fineman of Major Clients Agency.
