Spice Girls get peppered

PARIS — Some 70 hand-picked international journos turned up Nov. 17 at Planet Hollywood in Paris for the first glimpse of the new Spice Girls pic “Spiceworld: The Movie,” which is set for a Dec. 26 release in London.

A U.K. tabloid had earlier leaked that a press conference was to follow the next day at the swanky Hotel Monceau. Several U.K. media outlets, including BBC Radio One, were mildly miffed that they hadn’t been invited and word spread that the ‘Girls’ weren’t keen for the Brits to see the pic for fear of negative reaction.

“Not so,” claimed a frazzled Polygram mouthpiece — Polygram Filmed Entertainment, Icon Entertainment Intl. and Fragile Films are behind the pic. “This was a junket for selected journalists. There were no reviewers and there was no press conference. The British press has blown the whole thing out of proportion.”
