ABC News has named Kevin Newman news anchor at “Good Morning America,” putting its official seal on a job he has handled on an interim basis since August. Newman joined ABC in 1994 from the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. as an anchor and correspondent for “World News Now,” “World News This Morning” and “Good Morning America Sunday.”

Columbia TriStar TV has appointed Jennie Born to the newly created post of marketing director for syndie gameshows “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” Born will be responsible for developing product tie-ins and other marketing opportunities for the long-running gamers. Born comes to Col TriStar after stints as an entertainment-related marketing exec for Universal Studios and sales/promotion firm Barbara Watts & Associates.

The Nebraska Film Office has been honored for excellence in marketing by the Assn. of Film Commissioners Intl. AFCI marketing prizes are given based on creativity, design, ease of use and overall effectiveness in marketing locations in feature film, TV, video and commercial ad fields.

The Discovery Channel is now available to 600,000 cable households in Turkey. Discovery now transmits a Turkish-language version of the channel, having signed a multiyear deal with the Media Group, a partnership of Karacan and Raks. Elektromedia, sales arm of the Media Group, will do ad sales for Discovery Turkey.
