The seventh UCLA Extension Short Fiction Film showcase will be presented tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. This year’s program consists of five films that emerged from the university’s “Making the Short Fiction Film.”
The extension course is geared for industry professionals looking for a way to branch into feature filmmaking.
This year’s program:
“Mulligans” — Tippi Hedren and Marcia Rodd star as widows fulfilling the last wish of one of their husbands in this ironic tale. The story was directed and adapted from a story by Glendon Swarthout by his son Miles Hood Swarthout.
“Mitzi and Joe” — Jon Gries plays a mobster undone by senior Frances Bay in this character comedy. The film was directed and co-written by actor Cain DeVore with literary editor Angela Lubbock.
“The Lion’s Den” —The story of a young burglar and a supposedly abandoned house. TV director Rick Gough helmed the yarn, produced by development exec Jack Fleishman and TV news producer Noel Hoffman.
“Candy From a Baby” — A chance meeting bodes the possibility of romance and cash. Television comedy writer Mark Torgove wrote and co-directed the tale produced and co-written by Mike Fowler.
“Change of Luck” — Sean Russell stars as a smitten man in pursuit of his dream girl. Jeff Nelson is the writer-producer and the short was directed by filmmaker Danny J. Boyle.
