Continuing its push into the specialized film arena, Steven Seagal and Julius Nasso’s production company is in talks to acquire three projects it plans to independently finance.
Seagal/Nasso reportedly is close to a deal with actor Paul Sorvino to helm “Trouble With Cali,” a film based on a play by his daughter, Amanda Sorvino.
The play, which focuses on a 15-year-old aspiring ballet dancer caught up in the New York party scene, was recently presented at a soldout reading at Gotham’s TriBeCa Film Center.
Seagal/Nasso is also said to be circling “Big City” by John Leekly and “Cousin Joey” by photographer Sante D’Orazio.
Last month Seagal/Nasso announced plans to produce “Not Even the Trees,” a specialized drama about a heroin-addicted fashion model (Daily Variety, Oct. 29), written and directed by first-timer Nacho Arenas.
At the time the company also reaffirmed its commitment to produce studio-distributed commercial pictures for Seagal to star in, including the recently announced “Blood on the Moon.”
