Richard Schiff, who just finished shooting “Dr. Dolittle” opposite Eddie Murphy, will segue to “Deep Impact” for DreamWorks and Paramount, sources said Monday.
Schiff will play the father of Elijah Wood in the pic about boy who discovers a comet hurtling toward Earth while he’s taking pictures of stars for his astronomy class.
DreamWorks and Paramount are splitting the cost of the pic, which is estimated to be in the $65 million to $70 million range.
TV helmer Mimi Leder is directing the pic from a script by Michael Tolkin and Bruce Joel Rubin.
Richard Zanuck and David Brown are producing. Joan Bradshaw is exec producer. Pic started shooting last week.
Schiff just appeared on screen in “Lost World.” He’s also due out in “The Kiss.”
Schiff’s deal was brokered by Scott Melrose of the Paradigm Agency and his manager Steve Levinson.
