Bill Pullman is attached to star in the action thriller “The September Alternate,” which he will produce along with Joe Wizan and Don Schneider’s Phase 1 Prods. for Castle Rock and Warner Bros.
The project is based on a pitch by Dale Ashcraft (who sold the spec script “Pandora” to Warner Bros. last year). Ashcraft will pen the picture, which focuses on a “deep-black” classified Pentagon project activated when a strategic attack is launched on the United States.
Phase 1 creative exec Kristine Schwartz brought the pitch to Ruth Fainberg, VP of development at Pullman’s Big Town Prods. Castle Rock production prexy Liz Glotzer made the buy for the Warner Bros. subsid.
Glotzer describes the pitch as a cutting-edge thriller along the lines of the classic 1964 Cold War thriller “Fail-Safe.”
Steve Wizan will serve as executive producer, Schwarz as co-producer and Fainberg as associate producer.
Pullman, whose recent acting credits include “Independence Day” and David Lynch’s “Lost Highway,” is producing “Supertanker” with Dean Devlin at 20th Century Fox. His Big Town Prods. has been based at Castle Rock for three years.
Ashcraft’s deal was brokered by his agent David Murphy of the Field-Cech Agency.
