NEW YORK — Oliver Platt and Stanley Tucci will stow away on “Ship of Fools,” a screwball comedy that Tucci wrote and will helm for Fox Searchlight.
Platt, who just wrapped 20th Century Fox’s remake of “Dr. Dolittle” joins an ensemble cast that includes such “Big Night” alumni as Isabella Rossellini, Campbell Scott and Tony Shahloub. Other hands on the deck of “Ship” include Aidan Quinn, Hope Davis, Lili Taylor, Dana Ivey, Lizzie Bracco and Matt McGrath.
Beth Alexander and Tucci will produce the film, which begins lensing July 21 in Gotham.
Tucci, best known for his role in the ABC television series “Murder One,” has appeared in “Kiss of Death” and “In the Soup.” He made his screenwriting and directorial debut with Rysher/Goldwyn’s “Big Night,” a comedy about two Italian brothers whose refusal to compromise their culinary standards thwarts their entrepreneurial ambitions. Pic was one of the highest-grossing independent films of last year.
Platt and Tucci are both repped by Frank Frattaroli of the William Morris Agency.
