Chazz Palminteri is set to re-team with his “The Usual Suspects” co-star, Kevin Spacey, and a stellar cast that includes Sean Penn, Robin Wright Penn and Meg Ryan in the feature version of David Rabe’s legit show “Hurlyburly.”
Anthony Drazan will helm from Rabe’s screenplay. Drazan, Richard Gladstein and David Hamburger will produce. Storm Entertainment is handling international sales for the film — slated to roll Dec. 8.
Pic is about three desperate Hollywood wannabes in modern-day Malibu, struggling to define themselves in relation to the women they love, their careers and each other. Palminteri will play Phil, an ex-con and struggling actor.
After “Hurlyburly,” Palminteri will segue to HBO’s thriller, “Excellent Cadavers,” set to go before the cameras in Italy in mid-February under Ricky Tognazzi’s helm. Bill Unger will produce.
In the film adapted by Peter Pruce from Alexander Stille’s book, Palminteri will star as one of two real-life Sicilian magistrates who supervised the most devastating anti-Mafia campaign in 50 years. Although the two attorneys were assassinated by the Mafia in 1992, they managed to expose the alliance between the Mafia and the Italian government and permanently change the face of organized crime in Italy.
Palminteri’s credits include “Mulholland Falls,” “Diabolique,” “Bullets Over Broadway” and “A Bronx Tale,” which he adapted from his one-man legit show. Last year the Bronx-bred actor appeared with Cher in “Faithful,” which marked his sophomore screenwriting effort.
Palminteri is repped by Toni Howard and Andrea Eastman of International Creative Management.
