NEW YORK — While Al Pacino decides between Paramount’s “Snake Eyes” and several other projects for his next big-money acting job, he’ll direct and star with Jerry Orbach in “Chinese Coffee,” an indie pic based on the play he once performed at Circle in the Square.
Sources described the effort as similar to Pacino’s “Looking for Richard,” which started as a training film for Shakespearean actors but wound up a full-fledged pic. Pacino expects to shoot most of the pic this summer at his own expense, but has no idea when he’ll finish it or set it up for distribution.
He has yet to seek out distribution for “Local Stigmatic,” another play he starred in and financed as a feature. Pacino prefers to put up his own money for these modest productions so that he’s not encumbered by a financier’s timetable. He’s repped by CAA’s Rick Nicita.
